A party for Max

Pengy cake!
Max turns 3 on the 25th. We thought really hard about whether or not to do a party for him.  We decided to go for it. We know a small group of boys that are all around 6 months above or below his age. We see them on a regular basis.  We are also looking at preschools for Max next year, Yay, and that means we need to work on social skills.  We decided to have a very low key "play date party"  We invited Sam, Easton, and Carson over on Saturday morning.  We played for an hour or so just letting the boys all be in the same space and interact as they wanted to.  We played one game, Halabaloo where we just had the kids find colors, and shapes rather then playing the real game.  They lasted about three minutes but they all took turns a worked together.  It was very cute.  After that we sat down for some pizza, bread sticks and apple juice.  Then it was time for Cake!  The party was a penguin theme after Max's best friend Pengy.  I found a cake I liked online and copied it.  It took a long time to frost but it turned out awesome and sooo cute.  Max loved it.   The only time Max got upset was when we sang to him.  I forgot to warn him.  We all sang really fast then he was fine.  Max doesn't like frosting so he ate a plain cupcake.  everyone else dove in including Jakie who ended up so covered in frosting he needed a bath.  after cake the boys played a little more.  When it was time to head out we gave each boy a t-shirt I had made them and they chose a balloon to take too.  We had told the kids no gifts but a couple brought Max something little.  He got a couple new trains, a bus, and a foam train pegboard puzzle.  The party was a great success.  I am so glad Max had a great time.  Now we have opened the door for future play dates with the boys.  They are all so great.  Thanks to Beth for taking amazing pictures of Max on the sly.  He gets so mad when I have the camera
